Excessive blaring of Car Horns in Lagos has
exceeded the norm, turning it into an annoying habit. Everywhere you seem to
turn to, the alarm of these Car Horns seem to shake you off balance. It
distracts, discomforts, displeases, disturbs and most importantly, it is injurious to
the health. It is clinically proved that huge accommodation of sounds could affect the ear sensory organs,
thereby subjecting them to partial malfunctioning and sometimes total failure.
The Lagos State Government of Nigeria,
has therefore declared today, October 15, 2014, as 'Horn Free Day' across the
state. Commuters are enjoined to observe this call as it in the best interest
of the citizens.
The Lagos Horn Free Day is an
initiative against noise pollution, intolerance, indiscipline and lack of respect
to road users. It is, however, hard to believe that Lagosians actually adhered
to this call, taking cognizance of the unpalatable behaviour of the drivers of the Public
Transport buses, usually known as "Danfo" in times past. This is
indeed her (Lagos State) first Horn
Free Day Celebration.
